Does contracting Mononucleosis at work entitle you to disability pay?

My wife, a special ed teacher, contracted Mono in December. We assume it was at school, as several children are currently out with the disease. She has been unable to work since December, although she has attempted to return several times and was sent home by the school nurse (she has migraines, nausea, etc). She has exhausted al sick time & vacation time, and now must go on extended medical leave, with no pay or Health Insurance. Does this seem right? I would think that she is entitled to disability pay, or even Workman’s Compensation.

In 1946, Congress passed a law that gave hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities grants and loans for construction and modernization. In return, they agreed to provide a reasonable volume of services to persons unable to pay and to make their services available to all persons residing in the facility’s area. The program stopped providing funds in 1997, but about 300 health care facilities nationwide are still obligated to provide free or reduced-cost care.
